It's New Year's Eve, but 14-year-old Masha is alone in her house outside the city -- her parents are working through the holiday. She has no friends, except for her favorite toys, a wooden doll (Borʹka), a teddy bear (Mikheĭ), and a new robot (Gosha), a gift from her mother for the holiday. Masha also receives a nut mounted on a bracelet from her geologist uncle, a specimen from his current expedition. As the evening passes, magical things begin to happen...eventually Masha and her toys are transported to a Fairyland where the toys come to life, and the magic nut is being hunted by the evil Emperor.
