Alexander Lernet-Holenia, nacido Alexander Marie Norbert Lernet, fue uno de los escritores, dramaturgos y poetas austriacos más reconocidos de su tiempo. Su prolífica obra se compuso de antologías de poesía, obras de teatro, novelas, relatos autobiográficos y guiones de cine. De origen aristocrático, Lernet-Holenia fue amigo del también dramaturgo Ödön von Horváth. Usó también en algunas ocasiones el seudónimo de Clemens Neydisser y el de G. T. Dampierre.

D'origine aristocratique, il est l'auteur d'une œuvre abondante comportant des recueils de poésie, des pièces de théâtre, des romans et des récits autobiographiques. Il a aussi travaillé comme scénariste pour le cinéma. Il a notamment été l'ami de son compatriote Ödön von Horváth. Fort réputé dans les pays de langue allemande, il est surtout connu en France comme l'auteur du Baron Bagge (1936).

Luria's magnum opus, Higher Cortical Functions in Man (1962), is a much-used psychological textbook which has been translated into many languages and which he supplemented with The Working Brain in 1973.
