Esaias Tegnér, född 13 november 1782 i Kyrkeruds komministerboställe i By socken i Värmland, död 2 november 1846 i Växjö, var en svensk skald och kulturpersonlighet. Han var professor i grekiska vid Lunds universitet, biskop i Växjö stift från 1824 samt ledamot av Svenska Akademien från 1819.

He was during the 19th century regarded as the father of modern poetry in Sweden, mainly through the national romantic epic Frithjof's Saga. He has been called Sweden's first modern man. Much is known about him, and he also wrote openly about himself.
