Rex Todhunter Stout was an American writer noted for his detective fiction. His best-known characters are the detective Nero Wolfe and his assistant Archie Goodwin, who were featured in 33 novels, and 41 novellas and short stories, between 1934 and 1975.

Rhoda Broughton was a Welsh novelist and short story writer. Her early novels earned a reputation for sensationalism, so that her later, stronger work tended to be neglected by critics, although she was called a queen of the circulating libraries. Her novel Dear Faustina (1897) has been noted for its homoeroticism. Her novel Lavinia (1902) depicts a seemingly "unmanly" young man, who wishes he had been born as a woman. Broughton descended from the Broughton baronets, as a granddaughter of the 8th baronet. She was a niece of Sheridan le Fanu, who helped her to start her literary career. She was a long-time friend of fellow writer Henry James and was noted for her adversarial relationship with both Lewis Carroll and Oscar Wilde.

Manuel Ricardo Palma Soriano fue un escritor romántico, costumbrista, tradicionalista, periodista y político peruano, conocido internacionalmente como Ricardo Palma, famoso principalmente por sus relatos cortos de ficción histórica reunidos en el libro Tradiciones peruanas. Cultivó prácticamente todos los géneros: poesía, novela, drama, sátira, crítica, crónicas y ensayos de diversa índole. Sus hijos Clemente y Angélica siguieron sus pasos como escritores. En 1883, fue nombrado director de la Biblioteca Nacional. Su abnegada labor de reconstruir dicha institución le valió el apelativo de "El Bibliotecario Mendigo". En 1892 representó al Perú en el cuarto centenario del Descubrimiento de América realizado en Europa.

He made his reputation in the late 1630s by his ministry at Kidderminster in Worcestershire, when he also began a long and prolific career as theological writer.
