Alfred Edward Housman, bekannt vor allem als A. E. Housman, war ein englischer Gelehrter und Dichter, der insbesondere durch seinen 1896 erschienenen Gedichtband A Shropshire Lad bekanntgeworden ist. Die dort enthaltenen Gedichte beschreiben die verlorene Jugend in ländlichen Gegenden Englands. Sie bedienen sich einer knappen, ausdrucksstarken Sprache und Symbolik. Dadurch waren sie bei englischen Komponisten des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts beliebt und wurden oft vertont. Housmans Gedichte sind eng mit der Epoche und mit Shropshire selbst verbunden.
Alfred Edward Housman was an English classical scholar and poet. After an initially poor performance while at university, he took employment as a clerk in London and established his academic reputation by publishing as a private scholar at first. Later Housman was appointed Professor of Latin at University College London and then at the University of Cambridge. He is now acknowledged as one of the foremost classicists of his age and has been ranked as one of the greatest scholars of any time. His editions of Juvenal, Manilius, and Lucan are still considered authoritative.

Alfred Elton van Vogt was a Canadian-born American science fiction author. His fragmented, bizarre narrative style influenced later science fiction writers, notably Philip K. Dick. He was one of the most popular and influential practitioners of science fiction in the mid-twentieth century, the genre's so-called Golden Age, and one of the most complex. The Science Fiction Writers of America named him their 14th Grand Master in 1995.
