Charles K. Williams was an American author of crime fiction. He is regarded by some critics as one of the finest suspense novelists of the 1950s and 1960s. His 1951 debut, the paperback novel Hill Girl, sold more than a million copies. A dozen of his books have been adapted for movies, most popularly Dead Calm and The Hot Spot.

Charles Yriarte was a French writer and draughtsman, although his family was originally from Spain. He studied architecture in the École des Beaux-Arts and in 1856 became inspector of government buildings. Later, he joined the Spanish army as reporter for Le Monde Illustré during the Spanish campaign in Morocco. He travelled in Spain and Italy and became the magazine's editor after his return in 1862. In 1871, he quit his post to devote time to traveling, and his impressions were later used in his works. Some of his writings were published under the pseudonyms "Junior" and "Le Marquis de Villemer".

He is the author of the novels How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe and Interior Chinatown, as well as the short-story collections Third Class Superhero and Sorry Please Thank You. In 2007 he was named a "5 under 35" honoree by the National Book Foundation. In 2020, Interior Chinatown won the National Book Award for fiction.
