Gilbert Richard Redgrave was an English architectural draughtsman, bibliographer and art historian.

Gilbert Rist was a Swiss educator who was honorary professor at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. He was best known for his study, The History of Development: From Western Origins to Global Faith, which criticizes development and has been described as “to date, the most consequential and scholarly critique from the left of the development project”. Rist held a PhD from the Graduate Institute of International Studies.

Gilbert Friedell Rozman is an American sociologist specializing in Asian studies.

Gilbert Sandford Vernam was a Worcester Polytechnic Institute 1914 graduate and AT&T Bell Labs engineer who, in 1917, invented an additive polyalphabetic stream cipher and later co-invented an automated one-time pad cipher. Vernam proposed a teleprinter cipher in which a previously prepared key, kept on paper tape, is combined character by character with the plaintext message to produce the ciphertext. To decipher the ciphertext, the same key would be again combined character by character, producing the plaintext. Vernam later worked for the Postal Telegraph Company, and became an employee of Western Union when that company acquired Postal in 1943. His later work was largely with automatic switching systems for telegraph networks.

Gilbert Wakefield (1756–1801) was an English scholar and controversialist. He moved from being a cleric and academic, into tutoring at dissenting academies, and finally became a professional writer and publicist. In a celebrated state trial, he was imprisoned for a pamphlet critical of government policy of the French Revolutionary Wars; and died shortly after his release.

Gilbert West (1703–1756) was a minor English poet, translator, and theologian in the early and middle eighteenth century. Samuel Johnson included him in his Lives of the Most Eminent English Poets.
