Henri Pirenne was a Belgian historian. A medievalist of Walloon descent, he wrote a multivolume history of Belgium in French and became a prominent public intellectual. Pirenne made a lasting contribution to the study of cities that was a controversial interpretation of the end of Roman civilization and the rebirth of medieval urban culture. He also became prominent in the nonviolent resistance to the Germans who occupied Belgium in World War I.

Henri van Laun was a writer, translator and teacher of French. Born in the Netherlands and educated in France, he lived most of his life in England. He originally thought of being a journalist but found he preferred teaching. He was a friend of Hippolyte Taine and translated his History of English Literature into English. Van Laun also translated works by Molière and Alain-René Lesage.
Charles-Henri-Jean Dewisme, better known by his pen name Henri Vernes, was an author of action and science fiction novels. He published over 200 titles in the action and science-fiction genre. He was most noted for the creation of the character Bob Morane, a hero whose adventures spanned fifty years and went from straight adventure and science-fiction to fantasy. Vernes also wrote the text of many comics albums and animated movies.
