Joseph Marlow Hone was a British writer of the spy novel. His most famous novels featured a British spy called Peter Marlow. The first of the series was The Private Sector (1971), set in the Six-Day War. Marlow's story continues in The Sixth Directorate (1975), The Flowers of the Forest (1980), and The Valley of the Fox (1982). During his heyday, in the 1970s, Hone was favourably compared with writers such as Len Deighton, Eric Ambler and John le Carré.
Joseph C. Husslein, S.J. (1873-1952) was a key figure in the early twentieth century in the development of American Catholic social thought. Husslein was one of several figures, such as John A. Ryan, trying to apply the Catholic social teaching of Pope Leo XIII’s watershed encyclical Rerum novarum (1891). In the next decades Husslein would write over 500 articles on Catholic social teaching. The national Jesuit weekly magazine America published most of these articles. Husslein worked as an editor of the magazine.

Joseph Jolinon (1885-1971) was a French writer. He was born in La Clayette and studied law in Lille. He was mobilized in 1914, and served as a soldier throughout the First World War. Afterwards, he took up the law profession and settled in Lyon. He became a professional writer in the 1920s. The author of more than two dozen books, he won the Grand prix du roman awarded by the Académie française in 1950 for his novel cycle Les Provinciaux.
