He is associated with the fireside poets, a group of New England writers who were among the first American poets that rivaled the popularity of British poets. James Seaton Reid MA DD (1798–1851) was an Irish presbyterian minister and church historian.

James Sheridan Knowles was an Irish dramatist and actor. A relative of Richard Brinsley Sheridan, Knowles enjoyed success writing plays for the leading West End theatres. Later in his career he also produced several novels.
