Michel Villey was a French legal philosopher and historian. He was a professor at the University of Strasbourg and then at the University of Paris. He was born in Caen and was the grandson of philosopher Émile Boutroux. The Institut Michel-Villey is named in his honor.

He is the Permanent Secretary of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, a title he has held since 2011, and was elected to the Académie française in 2017. In addition to his academic work, he has also written historical crime novels, one of which continues the story of Arsène Lupin.
