Rafiq Tağı, born Rafig Nazir oglu Taghiyev was an Azerbaijani short story writer and a journalist who worked for Sanat newspaper until police arrested him and Sanat editor Samir Sadagatoglu for "Europe and Us", an article that was deemed to be critical of Islam and the Islamic prophet Muhammad. He was considered to be inciting racial hatred and sentenced to three years in prison. Released on a presidential pardon some months later he was assassinated in a car park.
Raghbendra Jha is an Indian economist and an academic who is a professor emeritus in the Arndt-Corden Department of Economics at the Crawford School of Public Policy at Australian National University.

Raghunatha Shiromani was an Indian philosopher and logician. He was the head of the Ancient Mithila University also known as Mithila Vidyapeeth. He was born in a brahmin family at Nabadwip in present-day Nadia district of West Bengal state. He was the grandson of Śulapāṇi, a noted writer on Smṛti from his mother's side. He was a pupil of Vāsudeva Sārvabhauma. He brought the new school of Nyaya, Navya Nyāya, representing the final development of Indian formal logic, to its zenith of analytic power.

Rahel Antonie Friederike Varnhagen was a German writer who hosted one of the most prominent salons in Europe during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. She is the subject of a celebrated biography, Rahel Varnhagen: The Life of a Jewess (1957), written by Hannah Arendt. Arendt cherished Varnhagen as her "closest friend, though she ha[d] been dead for some hundred years". The asteroid 100029 Varnhagen is named in her honour.
Abdur Rahmān Momand or Rahmān Bābā, was a renowned Pashtun Sufi Dervish and poet from Momand Agency in Peshawar during the Mughal era. He, along with his contemporary Khushal Khan Khattak, is considered to be one of the most popular poets among the ethnic Pashtuns. His poetry expresses the mystical side of Islam, in line with his Sufi-oriented nature.
Rahmonberdi Madazimov (1875–1933) was the founder and organizer of the theatrical movement in Kyrgyzstan, the founder and first artistic director of the Osh State Academic Uzbek Music and Drama Theater named after Babur in Osh city, and a writer.
