Adamantios Korais or Koraïs was a Greek scholar credited with laying the foundations of modern Greek literature and a major figure in the Greek Enlightenment. His activities paved the way for the Greek War of Independence and the emergence of a purified form of the Greek language, known as Katharevousa. Encyclopædia Britannica asserts that "his influence on the modern Greek language and culture has been compared to that of Dante on Italian and Martin Luther on German".
Adamántios Koraís, noto anche con le varianti francesi del nome "Adamance Coray" o "Diamant Coray" è stato un filologo greco. Uomo dal molteplice intelletto, viene ricordato anche per essere stato un traduttore, un pensatore, un intellettuale umanista e un patriota greco. Conseguì inoltre la specializzazione di medico a Mompellieri. Influenzato dalle idee della Rivoluzione francese e dalle istanze dell'Illuminismo, Koraís preparò il terreno culturale per la Guerra d'indipendenza greca e contribuì alla creazione della letteratura greca moderna.
Il suo nome è spesso associato alla questione della lingua greca, in quanto creatore della versione della lingua greca detta katharèvusa, una forma "ripulita" della lingua vernacolare. La lingua proposta da Koraís fu utilizzata dal neonato stato greco all'indomani della guerra d'indipendenza greca.

Adamántios Koraïs (en grec : Αδαμάντιος Κοραής / Adamántios Koraís, également connu sous le pseudonyme Adamance Coray en français, né le 27 avril 1748 à Smyrne et mort le 6 avril 1833 à Paris, était un érudit grec et l'un des esprits les plus vigoureux de son temps. Il fut le représentant de l'esprit des Lumières, et participa de façon décisive à la renaissance culturelle grecque, ainsi qu’à une prise de conscience pré-révolutionnaire en Grèce. Son activité philologique inlassable et ses travaux d'éditions de textes grecs anciens en font le pionnier de la philologie grecque moderne. La puissance de sa réflexion politique lui a conféré un prestige et un rayonnement exceptionnels, tant à Paris, où il vécut une grande partie de sa vie, qu'en Grèce.
Adamantius was an ancient physician, bearing the title of iatrosophist. Little is known of his personal history, except that he was Jewish by birth, and that he was one of those who fled from Alexandria at the time of the expulsion of the Jews from that city by the Patriarch Cyril of Alexandria in 415. He went to Constantinople, was persuaded to embrace Christianity, apparently by Archbishop Atticus of Constantinople, and then returned to Alexandria.
