Gordon Haddon Clark was an American philosopher and Calvinist theologian. He was a leading figure associated with presuppositional apologetics and was chairman of the Philosophy Department at Butler University for 28 years. He was an expert in pre-Socratic and ancient philosophy and was noted for defending the idea of propositional revelation against empiricism and rationalism, in arguing that all truth is propositional. His theory of knowledge is sometimes called scripturalism.
Eugene Luther Gore Vidal was an American writer and public intellectual known for his epigrammatic wit. His novels and essays interrogated the social and cultural sexual norms he perceived as driving American life. Beyond literature, Vidal was heavily involved in politics. He unsuccessfully sought office twice as a Democratic Party candidate, first in 1960 to the U.S. House of Representatives, and later in 1982 to the U.S. Senate.

Gottfried Benn war ein deutscher Dichter, Essayist und Arzt. Er wuchs als Sohn eines Theologen in einem Pfarrhaus auf. Nach dem abgebrochenen Studium der Theologie schloss er erfolgreich das Medizinstudium ab. 1912 erschien der erste Gedichtband Morgue und andere Gedichte, welcher wegen der drastischen Themenwahl und saloppen Ausdrucksweise einen Skandal provozierte und den Autor als Vertreter der neuaufkommenden expressionistischen Lyrik schlagartig bekannt machte. Mit dem 1918 erschienenen Novellenband Gehirne verfasste er einen bedeutenden Beitrag zur expressionistischen Kleinprosa. Die Zivilisationskritik der Morgue-Gedichte verfolgte er fortan in seinem essayistischen Werk. In Das moderne Ich widmete er sich der Frage nach der Stellung des Individuums in der Gesellschaft.
