David Joseph Weber was an American historian whose research focused on the history of the Southwestern U.S. and its transition from Spanish and Mexican control to becoming part of the United States. For a period of time, this field of study had largely been ignored, as both United States and Latin American historians concentrated on the central stories in their fields. He "was among the first scholars to focus on the importance of the relationship between Mexico and the United States."

He was a faculty member at the UCLA School of Public Health, the University of Southern California School of Medicine and the University of Houston. He is currently Director of the Constructive Living Center in Coos Bay, Oregon.
In 1988 he was retained by the World Health Organization (WHO) to teach Constructive Living to professional health workers in China. Dr. Reynolds studied Morita therapy and Naikan and lectures on these subjects to Japanese in Japanese in Japan. He is the only non-Japanese citizen to have received the Morita Prize and the Kora Prize from the Morita Therapy Association in Japan.

Formerly, he was a foreign correspondent of The New York Times and served as one of their bureau chiefs. He has taught at many colleges and universities. Since 2010, he has published the electronic journal, The Shipler Report.
