Vasubandhu was an influential Buddhist monk and scholar from Gandhara. He was a philosopher who wrote commentary on the Abhidharma, from the perspectives of the Sarvastivada and Sautrāntika schools. After his conversion to Mahayana Buddhism, along with his half-brother, Asanga, he was also one of the main founders of the Yogacara school.
Vasyl Ellan-Blakytny, born Vasyl Ellansky was a Ukrainian poet, journalist and politician. As a poet, using the pseudonym Ellan, he was hailed as a pioneer of Ukrainian proletarian literature. Ellansky was a founder of the Borotbists party, since 1920 he had been a member of Central committee of the Ukrainian Communist Party.
Vasyl Ivanovych Holoborodko is a Ukrainian poet and a representative of the "Kyiv school of poetry". His poems are characterized by their Ukrainian fairytale-like style. Holoborodko's books have been translated into English, Portuguese, Polish and German. Separate poems have also been translated into French, Romanian, Croatian, Serbian, Spanish, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Swedish and Russian.
Vasyl Mykolayovych Shkliar (Ukrainian: Василь Миколайович Шкляр; born 10 June 1951 in Hanzhalivka, Lysianka Raion is a Ukrainian writer and political activist. He is one of the most well known and widely read, contemporary Ukrainian authors. Some observers have even named him the “Father of the Ukrainian Bestseller”.
The Committee of the Shevchenko National Prize declared him a Shevchenko Prize Laureate in 2011.
