Ludwik Abramowicz-Niepokójczycki was a Polish activist, bibliophile, publicist and editor. He was one of the major activists of the krajowcy faction, living in Vilnius.

Ludwik Kubala was a Polish historian. Lived in Kraków and Lwów, fought in the January Uprising. In 1880-1881 he published a historical treaty that is said to have inspired Henryk Sienkiewicz to create The Trilogy. In addition to historical works, he wrote poems, plays and edited newspapers. He was also a gymnasium teacher.

He was a contemporary of Giovanni Verga, both having been born in the province of Catania within a year of each other. He was also one of the first Italian authors influenced by the works of Émile Zola, French author and creator of naturalism. Capuana also wrote poetry in Sicilian, of which an example appears below.
