Sofia Dmitriyevna Khvoshchinskaya, June 1 [O.S. May 20] 1824 – August 17 [O.S. August 5] 1865, was a nineteenth-century Russian writer of literary fiction and social commentary, as well as a painter and translator.

She also had an interest in Theosophy and helped found the "American Ladies' Club." The name had no geographical meaning instead the word "American" was to designate it as modern and for progress. Her work emphasized motherhood and morality.
