London, oct. 19-th 1801.
Your excellency!
have had the honour of speaking to sir Th01nas Troub-
ridge concerning some civil employment and ат sorry to
say, have not been able to receive а definitive answer from
him. Не told те that tWe only places worth ту acceptance
which earl S-t Vincent *) had at his disposal, where those 0f
appointing commissioners abroad, but а situation of this kind was
до seldom vacant, that ту waiting for it would be endless.
This is but poor comfort for те! However it gives те the grea-
test consolation to have in your excellency so good and so
generous а friend; and as long as сап natter myself wth
retaining your friendship, will remain happy in the hopes
of obtaining some employment in this country.
таке по doubt but your excellency's kind intercession in
ту behaIf with m-r Addington will procure те some good
situation, with the salary 0f which, and the interest 0f two
theusand pounds sterling, left те by ту dear father, will be
enabled to live very comfortably in this country.
Your excellenoy's most grateful and most obedient servant
Sam. Greig.
*) Знаменитый адмираль Джервисъ.
