Sidmonth, november 18-th 1806.

It is impossible for words to express ту feelings of grati-

tude for the тапу instances of your friendly patronage in

promoting ту welfare; but тоге particularly for tllis last mark

of your Ьепейсепсе, which at опсе places те in а elevated

and confidential situation under government, and not only

augments ту salary, but increases t.he number of commis-

sions оп which Н. 1. М. has been pleased to allow те опе р.

cent for ту trouble, and which have becn so considerably

increased since your excell. most obliging recommandation of

те to Н. 1. Majesty, that have tllis year executed commissions

to the amount of upwards L 130.0 stcrling. When I

renect оп ту situation only four years адо, then had scarcely

L р. ап. to depend оп, being the annual income of the

portion left to те by ту dear father. No words therefore ате

suTlciently powerful to express ту feelings to а benefactor

who has placed те in tlre eIevated and lucrative situat, ion

which I now lwve the honour to hold; but it shall ever be

ту almost ambition to prove the sincerity of ту gratitude by

ап assiduous altention to the execution of ту duty, and the-

reby show myself worthy of such distinguished marks of your

excell. beneficence. have at present only to regret that ту

weak state 0f health prevents те from entering immediately

оп the execution of ту duty in this new appointment; at the

same time have every reason to expect that ту health will

be perfectly restablished in the course of the winter.
