Vishakhadatta was an Indian Sanskrit poet and playwright. Although Vishakhadatta furnishes the names of his father and grandfather as Maharaja Bhaskaradatta and Maharaja Vateshvaradatta in his political drama Mudrārākṣasa, we know little else about him. Only two of his plays, the Mudrārākṣasa and the Devichandraguptam are known to us. His period is not certain but he probably flourished in or after the 6th century CE. Some scholars such as A. S. Altekar, K. P. Jayaswal and Sten Konow theorized that Vishakhadatta was a contemporary of Chandragupta II, and lived in late 4th century to early 5th century. But this view has been challenged by other scholars, including Moriz Winternitz and R. C. Majumdar.
Vishnu Prabhakar was a Hindi writer. He had several short stories, novels, plays and travelogues to his credit. Prabhakar's works have elements of patriotism, nationalism and messages of social upliftment. He was the First Sahitya Academy Award winner from Haryana.
Vissarion Grigoryevich Belinsky was a Russian literary critic of Westernizing tendency. Belinsky played one of the key roles in the career of poet and publisher Nikolay Nekrasov and his popular magazine Sovremennik. He was the most influential of the Westernizers, especially among the younger generation. He worked primarily as a literary critic, because that area was less heavily censored than political pamphlets. He agreed with Slavophiles that society had precedence over individualism, but he insisted the society had to allow the expression of individual ideas and rights. He strongly opposed Slavophiles on the role of Orthodoxy, which he considered a retrograde force. He emphasized reason and knowledge, and attacked autocracy and theocracy.
Vissarion Vissarionovich Komarov was a Russian journalist, editor and an Imperial Russian Army colonel who in 1876 was promoted to the rank of the Serbian army general for his victories in several battles he conducted against the Turkish army during the Montenegrin–Ottoman War, in 1876.
Vital Aza Álvarez-Buylla was a Spanish author, playwright, poet and satirist, born in Pola de Lena, Asturias, northwestern Spain. After studying and practicing medicine, he began to write plays, some with Miguel Ramos Carrión. His first, Basta de matemáticas, which premiered at the Variedades in 1874, was highly successful and was followed by more than 70 other plays. The centenary of his birth was celebrated by Aguilar's publication of an anthology of Aza's best plays in the Colección Crisol (1951).
Vital Voranaŭ is a Belarusian-Polish playwright, translator, writer, academic, and poet. He is a co-founder of Belarusian Cultural and Scientific Centre in Poznań and the publishing house Bely Krumkacz. He was born in Minsk, Byelorussian SSR and now lives in Poland. He completed his doctorate at Masaryk University in Czech Republic and teaches Irish literature and history of Belarus in Southwestern College in the United States.
